Biyografi
Professor Selahattin Gelbal completed his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in the Department of Educational Measurement and Evaluation at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education, in 1987, 1989, and 1994, respectively. He began his academic career as a research assistant at Hacettepe University in 1988 and was appointed Assistant Professor in 1998, Associate Professor in 2001, and Full Professor in 2010. Throughout his career, he has held several administrative positions, including Head of Department, Chair of the Division, and Director of the Institute. He has taught numerous graduate courses, such as Educational Statistics, Research Methods, Analysis of Variance and Research Designs, and Scaling Techniques, and has presented and published widely at national and international levels while serving as both researcher and principal investigator in various projects.
Professor Gelbal contributed to the national reporting of Turkey’s first participation in PISA 2003 and has taken part in major national assessment projects such as Student Achievement Assessment Examination (ÖBBS) and Monitoring and Evaluation of Academic Skills (ABIDE). He has served as principal investigator and researcher in projects conducted for the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), including studies on the validity of YDS English test scores, the equating of the YGS examination, and AI-based automatic item generation in language skills assessment. He has acted as a scientific advisory board member for institutions such as ÖSYM and the Ministry of National Education, supervised 91 graduate theses to completion, and advised numerous non-thesis master’s projects. He currently supervises 12 graduate students and has contributed to the development of graduate programs in educational measurement and evaluation in Azerbaijan, serving as a visiting faculty member at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. He continues his academic work at Hacettepe University and has authored and contributed to several books in educational measurement, research methods, and statistics.
