Virginia Braun is a Professor in the School of Psychology/Te Kura Mātai Hinengaro at Waipapa Taumata Rau/the University of Auckland, where she teaches around critical psychology, psychology and gender, and qualitative research. A feminist and critical psychologist, her research explores gender, bodies, sex/sexuality and health, and she is interested in intersections between academia and social engagement/social change. With long-time collaborator Victoria Clarke, she has published two award-winning textbooks for qualitative research – Successful Qualitative Research (Sage, 2013) and Thematic Analysis (Sage, 2022), which won the British Psychological Society (BPS) Textbook Award for 2022. They (often with others) have written numerous chapters, papers, editorials, and commentaries, and developed a website (www.thematicanalysis.net), on reflexive thematic analysis. With Victoria Clarke and others, she also writes about the story completion as a qualitative method (www.storycompletion.net). She’s active on Bluesky @ginnybraun.
